Q: Does anyone use this scraper on a cat(s) without being kill by her/them?

I used to remove the tartar from the exterior surface of my cat's molars with a scraper such as this. She hated it. When I was rested I would place her on an elevated surface like a bed mattress, then individually wrap each of her front paws with about two windings of 2" wide masking tape to prevent her from being able to use her dew claws to obstruct my hand during the scraping process. I would hold the cat gently but firmly on the bed under my non-dominant arm, while also gripping her head with my non-dominant hand in a way that spread her lips on one side of her jaw exposing the molar's outer surface. Then, with the scraper in my dominant hand, I would carefully scrape the tartar from the visible outer surface of her molars on that one side of the jaw. I didn't try removing any tartar from the molar's inner surfaces as there never seemed to be any, and even if there was tartar there, removing it from the inner surface would be way too difficult. The tartar would chip off in chunks so I didn't have to spend much time on any particular tooth. I would keep a pair of small semi-blunt tip scissors nearby to cut through the tape covering her claws when I was done with the dental scraping. I would then try to gently remove the tape without pulling too much on the fur of her paws.

Q: How long does it stay sharp?

I have only used it about 7 or 8 times on each dog so far (so 14-16 total) and it's still just as sharp. I haven't used it the last few times because I used it consistently for a week on my dogs, and all I have to do now is keep up with brushing their teeth :) hope that helps!

Q: I just got this and have been scraping my dog's tooth, stuff is coming off but not in big chunks. Does anyone have technique suggestions? Thanks!

If you have a lot of tartar like my chihuahua did, it helped me to push the tool upwards along the tartar (scraping away starting from the bottom up). Then when most of the gunk is scraped off, hold the tool perpendicularly between the gum and the very very top of the teeth and scrape downward. A big chunk flew right off when I did it this way.

Q: Can this be used on humans?

I can't answer that because I don't know. It works well on my dog and all the reviews I have been were used on canines, molars, but it works on my dog's small front teeth too. Hope this helps.
