Q: How do the tubes perform over time in rainy conditions? do they seem to hold up well?

I added another piece to the top creating a 5 inch overhang. It probably would have been ok as it was but I wanted to be sure.

Q: To the people who own this bee house: Do the bees seem to prefer the cardboard tubes or the holes in the wood?

So far mine like the tubes, but I have different species of bees and/ or native wasps using the house, too. It is still early here for leafcutters, so I am waiting to see what they do. One thing I will say is the lizards and green Anoles like the little door area- which may become a problem. I am waiting to see.

Q: what size nail head do I need?

The research says the tubes must be at least 6 inches long as the female bee eggs are laid in the back of the tubes, males in front. So, if the tube is too short, you only get male bees. Different bees like different diameter tubes, so research bees in your area.
