It isn't espresso because it isn't made under pressure, but it does have a "specialty" mode that is calibrated to make a drink that TASTES like espresso. And it gets good reviews, even from pour-over snobs. But it is technically not espresso.

Hello vanman, We would like to inform you that steam will come out of the top of the Ninja™ Specialty Fold-Away Frother (CM407) Coffee Maker while brewing. With this being said, we do recommend that you pull the machine out from under over hanging cabinets when using it. We hope this information helps. Helpful Ninja

Q: How do you make cappuccino and lattes using this machine? Do you use regular coffee grounds or espresso?

I love espresso and I can say "specialty mode" does taste like espresso (or cappuccino or a latte with milk) using regular coffee grounds. You use regular coffee grounds. It turns out amazing in this mode. I am super happy with my purchase.

I have had no problems with my machine. I have had it for 2+ years now. It doesn’t actually make espresso, but the specialty coffee feature does make a strong coffee that I believe is quite enjoyable!
