Job Done
I will not lie, for the first few hours I hated the Evo 4.2's. However, I was expecting to. Speakers typically take anything from hours to weeks to 'run in' from brand new and the Evo's, with their AMT tweeters, are no exception to this rule. After two days the mid and high frequency drivers had settled down a lot and the bass driver was starting to 'wake up'. Two weeks in they were hanging together really well and presenting me with a wealth of midrange and high frequency detail that I'd been missing with my previous main speakers; which after 18 years of heavy use were sounding tired and muffled in the higher ranges.I run a combined digital/analogue music and movies system so the Evo's, driven by a Denon AVR X2700H, have to fill both roles. Happy to report that they do just that. The 2" dome midrange driver aids the articulation of voices whatever the source and the AMT tweeter is simply amazing regardless of whether it's reproducing a violin or the crack of a bullet hitting a brick wall.I still had some reservations about the bass performance though, it felt a bit 'slow' and overblown unless I switched it out to my active sub. It was at that point, being now delighted with the speakers overall, I decided to try some new speaker cables. Those were the WBC Ultimate Assembly 9AWG bi-wire cables and they sorted the bass out beautifully though again there was an extended run-in involved (5 star review to follow). Job done. A month on I think the Evo 4.2's are very well designed and manufactured units at a silly price (in the UK) and I'm entirely happy with the changes they've brought to my system.
