I will give you the exact ingredients right from the jar, but they are written in French and I do not read or speak French. I do have a French dictionary; so here goes. Sucre (sugar), puree de chataignes (puree of chestnuts), sucre roux de canne (reddish brown cane sugar) and extrait pur de vanille (pure vanilla extract). Hope this helps.

Is this like a paste kind of on the thick side? Or is it something as loose as tomato puree?

It is like a thick preserve, but easy to spread on toasted bread. It is delicious with yogurts, in cakes, on bread, or just as is. It is a French speciality, not easy to find in the US.

Because of the intensity of the flavor which could stand up to and enhance fresh brewed coffee , the level of sweetness that is equal to "traditional " sweeteners, and the thick creamy texture that will "melt and spread into" the warmth of hot coffee....I say if you are a chestnut lover, go ahead....use this to create a special "winter" coffee

What's the expiration date?

I have no idea when the one I bought expired. It's eaten up and gone already until I buy my next one. That would be a question to direct to the seller anyway.
