Sturdy and Perfect for Beginners
Bought this for my 10 year old grandson who (along with his dad) are learning to forge, making plant and wall hooks. It was fun watching him try to pick up the wrapped Christmas gift! The anvil was perfect for starting out on this adventure and my grandson and his dad have put it to great use. It is holding up well.My only beef was with the delivery. The box was all torn to shreds and it looked like the delivery driver just threw it out of his truck. Can't say I blame him though. It was difficult to haul around. : )

Exactly what I was expecting AB
The anvil showed up when it was supposed to. The packaging was sufficient. I was a little worried that it would be too soft but those fears were not warranted. It is not a high end hard anvil but has been great for this beginner bladesmith. Overall I would recommed for nice, not too hard, and most importantly forgiving anvil.Angela B

Works for me!
My first anvil. It has worked perfectly for everything I have hammered on it. I'm a level 0 blacksmith with no training and it's awesome! 55lb is a great starter.

Pure hot smoking garbage
Purchased as a starter for grandson( note my grandfather born in 1880and lived to be 103 was a umpteenth generation blacksmith and passed that skill on to my father and myself as young man. This is a not a review by a forged in in fire wannabee) no i did not expect true smithing quality or even amateur level quality but i did expect the face to at least be hardened enough for a kid to putter on. That is a household junk drawer tack hammer in photo ;at no time did i exert more than mild wrist flex only. The only heat this anvil has ever seen was the casting pour.. i wont waste my time or yours detailing the other faults. Even by chinesium standards this thing is pure unadulterated grade triple aaa. Garbage. Wouldnt even use it as a boat anchor

Actual weight is 50.2 pounds
It may fall short of the 55 pounds it was advertised as, but it performs well for its price point. It has made several steel parts reshaped to my expectations without deforming itself. A very good value for an entry level anvil.

It's a cheap anvil...
Just getting started with blacksmithing. Saw a "great deal" on a 55lbs anvil and purchased it. After some delay in shipping, I finally received it. It was shipped in a cardboard box that was in pretty rough shape. I don't care, obviously, I bought it because it's an anvil. Plus the extra piece of cardboard placed at the horn end was a nice thought, but didn't really do much to prevent the horn from poking through. Needless to say, it arrived in anvil shape.Blue paint? Come on... that can be sanded off and repainted black but that's a future project.Wish I'd paid more attention to the hardy hole size. 0.83 vs 1" square. Hardy loses.Overall, the flatty surface can be used to pound metal, the horn can be used to shape metal. It's usable as a low end hobbyist (me) anvil. Cast iron, regardless of it's supposed "high hardness, maximum strength and durability. It withstands heavy blows" affirmations, it's cast iron which is prone to being misshapen. I've seen other warnings that state: "Don't hit the surface with a hammer..." I'm an amateur. We'll see about that.
