Daniel Smith285610005 Watercolour Set, 5 ml

I had been wanting to try Daniel Smith watercolours for a long while as they are used by a lot of the artists that I follow on Instagram and YouTube. This set seemed to be the best value way to do that, plus this was the cheapest price that I could find for them. The box is tiny as are the tubes inside it, but the paint is very highly pigmented and so will go a long way compared to cheaper paints. You get two of each primary colour (one cold, one warm) in a little 5ml tube. Having a limited colour set meant having to relearn some colour theory, but it was possible to get most of the colours that I wanted. Neutrals and skin tones were hardly fairly easily achievabl, but I struggled to get anything convincing for black. The colours themselves are really nice and mix well. They are all transparent or semi transparent and the French ultramarine is granulating, which is a nice effect. Overall I am very pleased with this paint set. It is dear, but the quality of them is readily apparent. I haven't yet had time to compare them fully with my other pro quality watercolour paints, but I will update this review when I have done so. Recommended if you can afford them for such small paint tubes.

I would always recommend this set, it’s my starting point for any kit I’m setting up. The colours are so rich and vibrant, and are the main mixing primaries any painter needs. Add a few earths ( yellow ochre, burnt sienna and umber) and maybe a mixing green to speed the process up and you have a great set.

Amazing quality paints and such a pleasure to paint with, they are expensive but worth every penny. The colours are a fantastic selection of 6 paints that mix a multitude of different colours. When they are used up, I will be buying more.

You cannot go wrong with this brand! Beautiful selection of colours. A little pricey but worth it.

This is a great value for money set of watercolours. I usually buy these separately but this is a great set of warm and cool primary colours that can be mixed into a huge variery of colours, ideal for travelling which this set is intended for, the tubes are only 5ml but the paints are very pigmented and a tiny amount goes a very long way, the tubes are made from sturdy metal with a little screw cap.I highly recommend Daniel smith paints, these really are the best quality paints you can buy.

Really good basic coloured paints. Just a pity they're so small, especially as,for anything other than the primary colours given,they need mixing. But they are lovely, with good pigmentation. Good tester pack if you're trying to decide which paints you want.

Was what I ordered and a gift

Great paints, only criticism from what I've seen so far is that they could be a bit eager to jump out of the tube first time you open them if they have been delivered/stayed in a warm environment (suppose this could happen with all tube ones but there are my first tube watercolours, only had pans before) so this might be something to consider if you want to travel with them (not an issue for me though). Very easy to rewet, brilliant colors. They are a 5 out of 5 quality paints
