GREAT figure
I was lucky enough to find one of these figures at Toys R Us. With Transformers: Animated recently being canceled, I'm not too sure how much longer these animated figures will be in stores. But anyway, I grabbed the last two at my local Toys R Us. One for myself, and one for my 5 year old nephew(hey, who says you have to wait until Christmas time to Christmas shop?)I purchased mine just a few days ago, so it's hard to really say how durable he is, but for these past few days, he's held up quite nicely and seems to be made of durable plastic. The joints are quite tight. For me, that's a good thing. That means he'll be around for a long time. Though, some have complained about the Transformers: Animated toys having arms and legs that pop off easily. I haven't had this problem yet. But, if you get this figure and need to tighten any joints, a small coating of super glue on the ball joints will do the trick. When any of my toys need a tightening here and there, I usually put a small amount of super glue on the joint, then, while it is drying, slowly rotate the limb around. This way, it can tighten it and the figure will keep its flexibility. That's just a little tip. Do that, and I doubt these figures will pose any problems. Now back to the figure. He stands at about six and a half inches. The paint job is pretty good. I must say, mine has a few factory errors, but not a huge deal. He still looks really nice.Optimus' axe can transform as well. In amazon.com's photo, he has the double-sided axe. What you can do, is fold those two blades on the axe together, and it makes a one sided axe/large hatchet looking blade. Optimus also comes with a shield, which is actually the roof of the truck when he is in his alternate mode. It attaches nicely onto his left arm. The shield also has a nice feature. You can attach it onto the axe and it becomes a giant axe.Next, I will talk about his alternate mode. This figure is the Deluxe Cybertron vehicle mode. He does not transform into a firetruck, though, he still kind of looks like one, I think. He transforms into a futuristic diesel looking truck. The axe can be stored in his hand while in vehicle mode, and the axe, of course, goes on top to complete the transformation. The transformation itself is easy enough. Not the most simplistic, but it's not impossible, especially since the figure comes with instructions. I got a different Transformers figure two years ago when the live action 2007 film came out. That figure had quite a difficult transformation, and my nephew still has problems doing it on his own, even after playing with the figure often. This Optimus figure, however, should be easy for small children to catch on to, to understand, and to remember.I wouldn't buy this on amazon if you can help it. The retail price is 10.99, and if you're at all like me, you are willing to save a dollar or two any chance you get. I also know that Target and Wal-Mart carry some of the Animated figures as well, so shop around first. I would definitely recommend this figure to anyone who is looking for a good, durable toy. I am the resident Peter Pan, meaning, I am an adult and still not only collect, but play with toys. I've spent a good amount of time with this figure and he is durable. I was skeptical, since I'd read and seen reviews of this figure, saying he breaks easily. He does not, as long as you are reasonably soft with him. Just like with any other toy, he'll break easily if you treat him poorly. Be sensible about how rough you are with him, and he'll hold up just fine.5/5

I was quite surprised with this figure I bought it ...
I was quite surprised with this figure I bought it because I needed a animated prime. this figure is more complex then you might think. animated is in my opinion not a line for little kids even though it may appear so.

The worst toy ever purchased!
Be warned! Once you turn him into a robot you will never be ableto get it back into a truck. The parts do not fit togetherproperly. Very frustrating for adults as well as the 5 yearold it was purchased for. Other toys in this line work muchbetter, this one definately could use improvement!

This toy is NOT sturdy.
We got this for our son for Christmas. It's the 2nd week of January, and parts coming off is becoming a regular part of playing with Optimus. So far, Optimus has lost his legs several times, his head, an arm, and the peg that holds on his shield, which had to be reinserted with pliers. Each time, we've been able to put back the part, but it's a situation that can't last for long, as the legs in particular are getting looser. My son loves the toy, but it is clearly not going to survive being played with very long, and that is terribly disappointing. Once the toy finally breaks for good, my son will be very sad.
