Q: Would this work for a steamer - a cooking steamer?

Wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I used it in our kettle and found tiny fragments of metal in the water. Needless to say it went in the bin.

Q: Does it reduce limescale only along the side of the kettle or also in the boiled water?

It does help even in boiled water. I have now given up on these and now filter my water before using the kettle. Kettle stays cleaner and only have to descale every 4-6 weeks. Much better. Hope this helps you.

Q: How long does it last before it needs replacing?

Only used it once and I wasn't happy that tiny bits of the metal were falling off after following all the instructions. Threw it in the bin.
