Black Diamond Big Air XP Package – No Color

Appears to be good quality and with the right markings. Its a nice easy device to Rappel with, nothing complicated in how to use it which in my book wins over more complicated devices, were there is a risk of doing something wrong in the procedure of setting the device up, especialy when it needs to be deployed quickly.

Have friends with this set/combination so knew what to expect. Well made, sturdy. Happy with it.

A great basic belay device, feels great quality and you feel you can trust it when dangling on a rope. A perfect entry level, easy to use belay device.

Exactly as described. Great basic set and good value when I bought it. I generally prefer this style of belay as it gives a bit more friction on the rope.

Works effectively

These are pretty much the defacto standard when it comes to belay devices; I looked at some of the other devices on the market for my first one but as this one comes with the locking clip i thought i would go for it.After a few weeks of having this package I'm finding that the carabiner does have a slight tendency to cross-load (particularly when the rope is slack); when compared to the similar DMM Aero HMS which my climbing buddy has. To fix this i'm thinking I will get a bottom locking device like the Black Diamond Gridlock Screwgate.The belay device itself its pretty good with a nice amount of friction when its locked; and a easy flow when playing rope in. You do; however have to turn it round when belaying children because they just aren't heavy enough to overcome the friction of the teeth.

For beginners or a basic climbing style. it does its job

I got this because I'd been having to borrow my friend's every time it was her turn to climb. This is the same one she has, except the newer version. Also, way prettier (hers is just plain silver). The blue is just gorgeous in person, and this one has a nice texturing to it. My favorite part of this belay device is how much friction there is against the rope. I honestly feel like you would have to be trying to drop someone. It makes me feel secure when belaying - I'm finally able to relax and stop white-knuckling it so my hands actually have recovery time in between climbs. The carabiner is high quality and easy to maneuver as well as the belay device. This is a great combo for a great price (my friend has pro-deals and tried to find something for me for a better price but couldn't). Go for it, you'll be pleased.

I'm a rock climber. In my experience, Black Diamond equipment is *ALWAYS* reliable.I've used this ATC for rappelling and it performed great. The teeth on the inside provide a nice amount of bite, which will take some strain away from whichever hand you're using to feed the rope.For belaying, I prefer to use a Grigri, so I haven't used this ATC for belaying.It comes with a large carabiner that is great for belaying and rappelling, I chose this package over a standalone ATC because it came with a very nice carabiner, and for the price it was a no-brainer.I'd highly recommend this ATC/carabiner combo.
