Wonderful and a huge relief
The first time I heard of PDA I immediately recognized my son. This book has been completely validating. Such a relief to know there are other kids so similar to mine. Such a relief to know we’ve been doing exactly what he has needed this whole time.I’m so grateful for the way this author breaks it down so well.I wanted to highlight the entire book, but ESPECIALLY the anxiety chapter.

The Most Helpful Book I've Read All Year
I'm the mother of two autistic children. They are brilliant, challenging, wonderful, and frustrating. One of them definitely fits the PDA profile, but since that's not a diagnosis in the U.S., I only recently heard of it and there's no one I can really talk to about it, at least not on a therapeutic level. Reading this book felt almost as enlivening as having a conversation with a friend who gets it. Eliza Fricker is living an experience with significant similarities to my own, and it was quite powerful to read the words of someone who gets it and along the way pick up a few new ideas for coping. Thank you. This book is also a quick read that you can easily pick up and put down. Highly recommend this book for any parent with a likely-PDA kiddo.

A good start
Title: The Family Experience of PDAAuthor: Eliza Fricker⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The hook of this book is that the author "gets it," and it's right. She truly does.I am many years into parenting my sweet PDA kiddo, so most of this was not new or revelational, but I wish I had this book when I first started.I think this introduces a tough-to-grasp concept in a very digestible and easy to read way.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Not for me
This three star review is placing no fault on the author. While I totally believe this book will hit home with many it just wasn't what I was looking for. While I share many of the same experiences as the author describes I really didn't want just a less dramatic account of my every day life. The author's example of a tantrum was her daughter kicked the couch once out of anger. If this where what I was living I wouldn't be looking for a book. There are great parenting suggestions like being flexible, lessening expectations and becoming an expert in reading your child, however I did not find any advice on how to do those things and not lose your mind.If you're looking for someone to illustrate that you are not alone this is a great book. If you're looking for support or advice I would personally not recommend this book.
