Q: can I use this item to dye a shearling coat (outside of it) from tan to black?

Few things to consider: If you don't know if the material is treated in any way (it might absorb in some places and not in others, or it might not absorb at all), I would suggest you try it in a small spot somewhere that's not obvious. Also, keep in mind that since it's a coat, I asume it doesn't have lining, the color might be absorbed on the other side too and when you wear it it might bleed on your clothes if the coat gets wet or you sweat. Also, depending on how big your coat is, you will need a lot of bottles for 1 coat, for more coats you will need even more. I would suggest you look into professionally dying this item.

Q: Does this dye need to be sealed? Using black and don't want it to rub off onto anything.

The key with shoe dye is to give it time to dry. I've had to wait over a week for dye to truly dry. Once it dries, there's no coming off - it's permanent.

Q: I'm dying hip suede coat w/ hood. It's been cleaned & faded alot a.w.a. still stains. How many bottles of med brown should i need?

I'm not sure if this will help you any but I used an ounce short of two bottles to dye a pair of suede shoes... I'm guessing it's gonna take quite a bit to do your coat.

Q: I have a light purple UGG boots and want to dye it black. Will this work? Will it come out dark black and will it turn the suede stiff? I tried to have it dyed w/ our local shoe repair man and he said UGG boots can be dyed but will not come out right. Thank you!

I used black dye on a rust color pair of pumps. The dye absorbed into the suede like a sponge and therefore needed 3-4 coats. The suede did not become stiff, but I used shoe stretchers to keep the suede from shrinking since the shoes had a pointed toe. The shoes look like they were always black (you cannot tell that they were dyed.) And, the suede is supple.This is my experience. I do not know anything about dying UGGS. I hope this helps.

Despite applying 4 times, I could still clearly see the original colour (plum) through the dye. In the end I bought some Dylon which covers first time
