Q: What does the mode button on the controler 1 through 4 do?

I have 12428 but there's only a power switch and 2 knobs for steering and throttle. A friend also has the same transmitter although his car has plastic gears mine came with all metal gears. So I really don't know.

Q: Can this be upgraded to last longer and go faster?

I upgraded the battery only and got a lot more torque and speed and battery time. I can get 30-40 mins easy using a 7.4 2000mah

Q: Can I use a 7.4V 5000 mAh battery in it?

I use a 7.4v 2000 and it makes me a tad uncomfortable because it heats up however it doesn’t go into thermal protection (if it even has one). I get a good half hour out of that. Because it gets so hot I’d personally say maybe use a smaller one.
