Q: How does cool air set curls?

It is not an entirely heatless tool, it just adds cool air to minimize the heat damage and set the curl. It has heat in the inner bars (like a straightener) that when you twist through a section of your hair, puts the curl in, but then cold air blows through holes around the heating element part to set the curl seemingly simultaneously. So when you pull the tool through your hair, the curl is put in by heat but your hair is then cooled. Thereby, the curl is cool to the touch once it falls out of the element. The cold air seems to help set the curl and that's why the curls stay so much longer than a regular curling element.

Q: I am looking for a heat appliance to curl a wig that is heat friendly up to 300F. What are the temperatures of the low and medium heat settings?

The upgraded white version has 4 specific temperature settings that go up to 400 degrees. If you’re not interested in paying double the price, understandable, the temperature settings on the black model range from 203 degrees to 400 degrees. I would always use a heat protectant spray (if it is made from remi hair) and start on the lowest setting, which logically would be 203 degrees. I’d have to guess between the lowest and highest lies a median temperature which would be 300 degrees. If you decide you to use the second hottest setting I would just be very cautious of the amount of time you hold it in one place/try to keep it moving quickly to avoid getting too hot until you get a feel for what your hair, real or not, can handle. Better to start low and go up if you have to!

Q: Do you still need to use heat protectant for this product?

There is nothing in pamphlet that states it is not necessary. It is a flat iron so my suggestion would be to use a heat protectant.

Gotta hold the power button down for several seconds, until the red lights stay on permanently. Then let it heat up until the the air starts working (takes a couple of minutes, you hear the noise) and you are good to go.
