Adequate for Emergencies in Mild Rapids--Tucks in Tight in Inflatable Kayak
Very lightweight--definitely better than nothing. When you need an emergency paddle, this will do the trick but it's on the flimsy side. If you're a serious white water paddler (Class III and up), buy a name brand but if you're sticking to Class II and lower and truly just looking for a tuck-away option, this is adequate. It definitely packs down to small enough to wedge beside my thigh in the inflatable kayak. Would absolutely hate paddling far and not trust it to hold up against many rock bashes, so use as intended.

Great Buy
This is a nice quality telescoping boat paddle, and it's at a really great price value. I got for my husband to keep on his boat in case of his motor breaking down. He likes it because it's light weight and collapses down pretty small. So it's easy to store away on the boat without taking up any of the space that's reserved for his fishing gear.

Good quality at a decent price
Got this little emergency paddle mainly for my kids to use when we're out on the paddle board. They sit on the front of my board and obviously need something nice and short, but they love to "help out" by paddling. It's a fun addition to have along. Would be equally good for kids out on a canoe. Or, of course, as a true emergency paddle to keep in your boat. The construction is good quality and it's easy to use with the telescoping pole. The handle and paddle head are constructed of sturdy plastic, and the shaft is a pretty tough metal. Overall very pleased.

moderate quality
Really cool concept for traveling with my kayak and keeping the small area clear while fishing. I have a pedal drive and don't need a paddle for much, but this thing comes in handy for the quick adjustments needed that the paddle-drive/rudder don't provide and the big bulky paddles/double paddles don't allow for with a rod in your hand. I'd like to see a little more sturdy hardware on the connection points and extensions. Overall good for the price.

So Close to Perfection
An often under appreciated aspect of writing a review is the extent to which it may affect a vendor. I really wanted to give this product five stars since, in most aspects, it knocks it out of the park. One of my life’s great follies is that I love sculling using a conversion kit in a canoe. Over the years, I have down sized my vehicles and I now have a mini and a small sports car. I leave my oars at the club but transport a paddle for close manoeuvres when I am near the dock and similar. This paddle is the perfect size as it fits easily in either vehicle. The emergency paddle has a collapsed length of about two feet including the handle. The handle clips into place with a pop spring. The two pieces of telescoping aluminum tubing have a thick wall and the whole unit has a robust feel. So far, so good.My sole issue is that two plastic threaded compression collars are used to keep the aluminum tubes in place in both the extended and stored positions. I found that they made it difficult to align the handle to the blade when extended. Pop springs would have been a much better choice. As a work around, I intend to use “D” type retention pins.

Not an emergency item, could put someone in actual danger
I would not want to be left with this as my emergency paddle. I would take a decent paddle that separates in the middle, and stick the two pieces in the front of my kayak or canoe. Attaching it somehow to the boat, if you are in an open faced canoe or something. When you read the instructions, they seem to imply that if you put the handle on wrong, it will just break. Is that something you want to deal with when you are in an emergency on a river or in an ocean? Probably not.The size is just too small as well. If you have kids that can not use the regular paddles, then maybe this could be fun for them to use. But when I was a child, I used a real paddle. So IDK if this is even useful for that. If you do give this to some poor kid, make sure you extend the pole and then attach the handle in the way the directions say, or you may break the thing before getting in the river. The problem is that if you do take this on a boat, it may become an emergency paddle. Which in the end, it is really not a great paddle to use. Something better should probably be in its place on a limited sized boat. This is a great idea, that seems to have been made cheaper by the manufacturer. Can you picture putting your weight on this paddle to push you off a rock or sandbar? Or do you see how fast this thing could just snap, then you're left in open water with tiny plastic paddle blade pieces. If you have a real paddle to compare this to, you will be disappointed using this noodle.
