Words are inadequate to describe this wonderful book. A cherished purchase. Love it. Nice thick pages, with every hymn you can think of and the story behind each hymn is touching. Front index the title of the hymn. The back index the first line of the hymn. I recommend it highly.

I heard a preacher using this book in a service and decided to buy it. the history of the hymns is fascinating. Good book delivered promptly.

I had been given this book as a gift and loved it so much I wanted to bless others with it. I ordered 2 more for friends birthdays and they are thrilled. The variety of Hymns and the explanation of each is wonderful and the paper on which it is written has a lovely "hand-made" feel. Very highly recommended.

Was intrigued to listen to the story behind one of my favorite hymns on t.v. and was keen to hear of more stories. I was pleased to find the book on Amazon and it arrived only a few days after it was ordered.

Wow! What a collection. As a family we have thoroughly enjoyed using this extensive book for our morning devotions/history lessons. It has been fascinating to us all (yes, kids included) to learn the stories behind the hymns. Yes, we already knew some of the more famous ones, like It Is Well With My Soul, but many of the other stories and some of the hymns were new to us. Incredible how SO many of them were borne out of tragedy and heartache. Amazing how God turned that sadness around to enable that person to compose a song that would still be sung hundreds of years later.Written in chronological order, don't panic! The songs are listed in alphabetical order in the index so easy to find the one you are looking for. There is also a list of author/songwriter. I would highly recommend this book to all families wanting to delve more deeply into the great hymns of our past, most of which still deserve an airing today.
