Great Quality (Just Be Aware)
First, let me state that I have a Rode Pin Mic, Rode Lapel Mic, Rode NTG-3 Condenser Shotgun Mic, and have the Sennheiser MKE-1 mic. After trying a friends Sennheiser ME2 lapel mic, I was blown away that it sounded better than both of my Rode Lapel mics for 1/2 the price. Next was the MKE-1 which blows away everything. Unfortunately I had an issue with it and upon returning it I found that it was on backorder. Thus the MKE2 came into play.Frankly, I think the sound on the MKE-2 is fantastic. I don't have the MKE-1 right now to compare so I'll update it later. Although the MKE-1 was absurdly small (both microphone size and cable diameter) it sounded very good. The MKE-2 is more of a normal cable diameter but the actual microphone head is very minute as well. (Nothing is as minute as the MKE-1) but it's almost like splitting hairs between the two. Edge goes to the MKE-1 for live stage performances since it will hide in hair etc. better. But for broadcast or video, not much of an issue. What was aggravating is that Amazon.com doesn't inform you on the description, is that the MKE-2 version here comes with an XLR cable. This is a deal killer if you are using a wireless transmitter or sound recorder that takes 3.5mm inputs. Had I know this prior, I would have not purchased this version but rather one of the other MKE-2 versions. Of Note: (Sennheiser makes multiple versions of the MKE-2 mic. So do some research to ensure that you get the right mic and connector). Again, had I known.Last, both the MKE1 and MKE2 come in a cheap plastic bag. It's worthless. A ziploc bag is of superior quality. So unlike the Rode's, you don't have a case for the mic or accessories. And speaking of accessories, this was supposed to ship with (2) windshields (MZW 2) and I got one. (2) lapel clips, I didn't even have one in the bag. (1) Vampire pin, I didn't even get this. (1) Necklace clip holder, again missing. So to conclude, the quality of the mic is fantastic. The one star demerit issued was for the absurdly pathetic package and lack of case it comes with, and although somewhat petty, the fact that my package was missing all of the vital accessories needed to actually affix the microphone. I would highly recommend this mic, just make sure you pick the correct version for your personal application needs.
