Q: why do i need 150 of them?

Well, it's a matter of personal choice. I test frequentl, so I am happy there are 150 of them. The box that I just got doesn't expire until August of 2023, so I know I will have no problem using them by that time. I like to make sure my water softener is working.

Q: Can it test bottled carbonated water?

I am sure it can. I would test the freshly opened bottle first, then let it stand overnight to lose the carbonation then test again to see if there was a difference. The stale water test should be considered definitive. I am a chemist.

Q: It says for testing magnesium, I don't see a magnesium scale? Does it actually test magnesium?

It tests for it, it tests for all the minerals and metals it lists. It does not have individual scales for each one.

Q: Does this work for salt chlorinated pools?

Yes, it will indicate the total hardness (amount of CaCO3)
