Very well made! This is the deluxe version, worth the extra money compared to the regular version
This chess set is very well made. This set is the deluxe version. It is bigger, heavier and more detailed compared to the regular version. (see pictures)The chess board frame is made of metal. The battle ground surface is plexi glass over printed "marble" patterns. This is the only place where the company went "cheap". The printed "marble" pattern could use an upgrade. But that's a minor issue and I'm willing to let that go.Overall, a VERY satisfactory purchase!

Well worth
I must say it is well worth the price. I was a bit worried since the package was delayed due to weather problems but once it arrived I was very amazed what I was looking at, the pieces are very stunning while I really don't know what material are made of they very sturdy and a bit heavy ( except for the very small and thin parts like the queen sword) as for the board while it is sort of big and very sturdy aswell the size is too small for the amazing pieces on top of it evreything is crowded it gives you little space to move the pieces as you please. All in all it still deserves a 5 stars due to the all the detailed they put into the pieces if you're a fan of Harry Potter or just like chess in general this is a must buy!

Nice pieces, board is very heavy and surface is plexiglas
The pieces are metal and very nice looking. The board is metal making it very heavy guessing maybe 20 pounds, the surface for the board is plexiglass and although it looks nice I worry about how it will hold up, and how I would replace it if I needed to. We are likely going to buy a nice chess table and store the board that comes with this set. The squares are about 1.75” each making it a little tight since the pieces are quite large. The price is fairly steep but there are not many options for an HP themed board that isn’t plastic.

I love this HP chess set !!!!!
I love this Harry Potter chess set. I saw other reviews complaining about how the gold paint was applied but my set is perfectly painted. It's suppose to look vintage and used. Some of the pieces do have vunerable parts to them so you need to be careful on handlingthem. This is not a toy for small children. The chess board that comes with it is perfect. Some of the reviews said how fragile it is. Well I only use it for the game of chess and it's strong for doing that but I doubt it would hold a potted plant without breaking so if you only use it forholding the game pieces it will last a life time. The details are amazing. Each chess piece is made with multiple castings so you geta lot of detail behind, let's say, the saddle of the knight. It took a long time to put each piece together. The pieces lookexactly like the larger pieces (only smaller) in the Harry Potter movie but the chess board does not. The pieces are in their packaging very tight so you need a lot of care getting them out. The pieces look to me like a blend of die casting and plastic and they all have a nice weight to them. One review said that the knight was too big for the game board but my knight fits perfectly on the game board that I got.

Pieces too large for board design
Generally the chess piece should be no larger than .75 of a square. Not so with this chess set. The pieces are beautiful, but the set would be so much better had the one-inch border been eliminated and the playing squares made even slightly larger.

Overpriced, poor quality
Chess set looked great in the Noble Collection catalog. When I received it, the box looked like it had been through the wringer; worn, retaped and in general-poor condition. Opened the box to find that the board had a missing faux red gem and one that had been clearly super glued back on. A portion of one of the board feet had also been super glued on. There were two loose screws and a nut rolling around in the box. Another nut was missing. This hardware was to fasten the corners of the board frame together. The chess pieces were large and very cool - true to The Chamber of Secrets movie. Given the quality of the set, this was a very over priced item. I feel that $150 would have been more appropriate than the $395 asking price. I returned this without any hesitation.

Amazing chess set- and huge too
Love this, the peices look just like in the movie, it really is a set as beautiful as it is functional. The peices are weighty and everything has a solid, quality feel to it. The one carveat I have for buyers is the chessboard is considerably larger than the photos make it seem. This is both a good and bad thing as bigger is awesomer, but it was so big I could barely fit it on the small table I wanted to use (The legs of the board stick out from it a bit). Be sure to measure to make sure you have a place to put it!

Good chess set
Probably overpriced for $400 or so as I recall. But it does look good, is fun, and makes me and the kids play more chess. It's an interesting mix of 'quality' and 'cheapness'. Looks very good at first, and second, glance. And very appropriate to 'have out in a fancy place'.I would buy it again.Quality - figures' look, size, design of board, overall lookOk - paint on figures, board in general'Cheap' - little plastic red 'rhinestones' on border or board, and plastic covering of white-black squares
