Like my mother, I have always been an intermittent sleeper. Deep sleep has always been elusive for me and when suddenly awakened it's seldom that I can get back to sleep. Waking in the morning feeling fatigued became normal for me and an opportunity to take a brief nap became important to find.Being prescribed and always using a CPAP machine has been a big help for me but didn't completely solve the problem. There must be some genetics involved here. I tried Benadryl which did its job well but the half-life of this OTC drug kept me feeling drowsy throughout the day.And then I started having periodic leg movement (PLMD) and also started acting out my dreams. Not only did that further disrupt my quality of sleep but it was also caused some problems for my wife. So back to the pulmonologist I went.He took me off the Benadryl and put me on Melatonin. For some reason a small dosage does the trick when taken an hour before bedtime. A John's Hopkins' study states that Melatonin helps promote sleep. Coincidentally it has also been shown that sleep is essential for your health and boosts your natural defense system against harmful viruses. Check with your doctor before taking it.

I'm sleeping well, have been using for 7 weeks with zero side effects. It took several days - but under a week - to start working. Very happy with it. Re-ordering now. I have no morning grogginess with this nor any other side effects. Everyone's body is different of course, but for me it's working nicely, and not just for sleep. For hormone / cycle regulation too. Works pretty good to fall asleep, but still have trouble waking up in the middle of the night. Downside is it is a capsule and can not break in half if you want to take a little more in the middle of the night. Other than that, it is good.

Early on in trying to figure out what would work best for me I tried various brands and strengths. In the process, I figured out that for me, any strength higher than 3 mg, I would start being kept awake instead of sleeping within a couple of days. I settled on these and they worked well. When my insurance started offering and OTC benefit, I switched to a brand I could buy in the store so I could use that OTC card to get them for free. I was disappointed with the results though and have switched back to these from Life Extension. They cost me more than the OTC brands, but they work consistently for me.
