Serves its purpose which is to help your child do well on his test...and it worked!
I was very pleased with how this test prepared my son. He took the CogAT the previous year but with no preparation. He had no idea what to expect and he didn't do so well. I knew that my son can do the problems, he just needs to know what he needs to do. Once we practiced with the book, he understood how to do the problems and make sure to bubble in the answer in the right answer bubble. It just helps your child be familiar with the setup of CogAT and my son ended up with a 99 percentile on his test. Cost about half less than the Practice Test for the CogAT® Form 7 Level 10 (Grade 3*) Practice Test 1 so I was very happy with that. This practice test served its purpose, so I am pleased...

Pretty good practice test for format familiarity
I purchased this for my grandson simply in order to familiarize him with the test format. He's a bright third grader and he pretty much aced it. The answer key in the back of the test is very straightforward. I found a couple of answers provided were questionable from my personal angle of perspective. Overall, this is a pretty good practice test if you want to have your student be familiar with the format prior to being tested for a high capability school program.

Excellent Resource for Test Preparation
This test is laid out in the same format as the actual CogAT test. It is divided into correlating sections and the problems are presented in similar fashion. I would say the questions seem somewhat more difficult than the actual test based on appropriate grade levels. Also specific grade levels are not shown. It says roughly the first few questions are targeted to third grade, then proportional numbers of questions are targeted to each successive grade. My biggest complaint is the lack of a bubble sheet answer form to use while practicing the test. Transferring answers onto a bubble sheet can be a real challenge for younger kids, especially if testing time is the first experience students have with bubbling their answers. Why let such a small detail distract from doing their best on the actual test?

Exactly as described
It's a sample CogAT test for 3rd grade, except it has all the answers at the back and a short list of tips for doing your best on any standardized test. Was very useful in helping my daughter feel confident going in to the district-administered test, esp. the non-traditional questions. On all but one question, we were easily able to understand why the correct answer was correct. Assuming the figure matrices and such get more challenging at each grade level, we would probably need explanations as well as the correct answer at middle school and beyond.

Good prep for IQ testing
I bought this book to help prepare my son who was scheduled for gifted testing. I wanted him to be familiar with HOW the questions would be worded. This isn't a prep book but it did well in informing him about the TYPES of questions that may be asked. He did make it into the Gifted program and he credits some of the examples in this book for making it easier to answer during the test (specifically the Paper Folding sections.)

This book is okay. There are a few errors in it and I wish they kept the test question formats closer to the real exam so young children would know what to expect. The practice test is both longer and has more choices (A-E) than the real exam (A-D). This, combined with some question formats that don't show up in the real test can make the exam confusing for both kids and adults. What really takes off a star though it the lack of answer explanations. As a parent, this requires more effort to help your child understand why some answer choices aren't the best option.Because there aren't a lot of options, I'd probably buy this, but it wouldn't be my primary training tool.

Some of the Answers are Incorrect
I purchased this book for my third grader who is registered to take the CogAT in February. She began doing practice problems last weekend and since then my husband and I have come across at least three problems for which the answer listed in the Answer Key is incorrect. Given the nature of this type of examination, and the type of problem that is given, the editors should be double and triple checking to ensure that every answer is correct. Needless to say, I am extremely disappointed.Meanwhile, my fifth grader is also taking the CogAT in February. A friend and I ended up purchasing and are sharing a book that we purchased from a different publisher, Bright Kids New York City. It was more than double the cost of this book, but my son has completed all of the problems and at least all of the answers in the Answer Key were correct. It was worth the money.

Highly recommend. Worked for my son.
Fantastic. My son did great on the CogAT test, and was accepted to the gifted program. He told me that recognized how to answer the test questions because of this book. Highly recommend.
